Chapters 26-27

In chapter 26 school starts again an they are eventualy starting to pass the Radley house more often. Miss Gates, scouts third-grade teacher, was teaching the class about how Hitler's approach was bad for the Jewish. But after the trial she was doing the same wrong approach to Tom Robinson basically and Scout asked how she could do that and at the same time say it wasn't right for Hitler to kill the Jewish. Miss. Gates wasn't listening to herself even though she was telling everyone else that Hitler wasn't right for doing what he did but she told Miss. Stephanie that it was time for them to teach black people a lesson and she was being mean just like Hitler was opressing Jewish, over a religion.

Chapter 20

In chapter 20 Atticus gave his colsing statement which I believed shocked everybody. The closing statement that reflected what Atticus was trying to get across to everyone the whole trial, he stated that Tom Robinson was innocent, he also stated that Mayella shouldn't blame Tom for something that her dad did to her - what I mean by that is Mayella shouldn't blame Tom for something that Mr. Ewelle did to her. Also in this chapter Tom Robinson is convicted on being guilty of the rape charge. Everyone is shocked and so is Jem.. he is the one to start crying and that's really not Jems character. Jem starts to cry because, he thinks that Tom Robinson is innocent and he believes that he shouldn't be convicted of something he didnt do. The closing statement in this chapter was the most powerful thing I think happened. Atticus must have put lots of thought and effort into it. Atticus and Tom sure would have won if the jury didnt already have their mind set up, but Attius tried his best and that's all that matters .

Chapter 4

Reading the book To Kill A Mockingbird one of the main characters Scout was explaining summer for us. She said "Summer was on the way...summer was our best season it was sleeping on the back porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the tree house; summer was everything good to eat..." In the summer Scout was as happy as she could be, she was mostly Happy because when the summertime came Dill came. He was a friend of Jem Scout and every summer he would come back and spend it with them. When the summer comes everything is fun for Scout and Dill.

Ch 5 & 6

When we were reading To Kill A Mockingbird, we had to find a vocabulary or an allusion and mine is..."If she found a blade of nut grass in her yard it was like the Second Battle of the Marne" (page 47) When I went on the Student Survival Guide I realized it is one of the battles in World War I .

Ch. 7

In chapter 7 I had the honor of leading the class discussion, it was really fun (: I also learned a lot. In the chapter Jem and Scout were very sad because, the hole was filled with cement and they werent able to get the stuff out of it. Also, in this chapter they were going to write a letter but they couldn't because Mr. Radley closed the hole w/ cement, but it looked perfectaly healthy.

Ch. 9

In This chapter Jem and Scout had family come down for x-mas and when they came down they wanted Jem and Scout to stop cursing while they were around. In this chapter Scout was very angry beccuase, people kept saying that her dad was a defender of blacks, and Scout got very offensive because everyone's telling Scout that her dad is an African American lover and scout is saying that he isn’t. This Chapter is a very good and descriptive chapter (: If you don’t have this book you should get it!
Also In Chapter 10 there's a "mad dog" and what happens is the dog goes around the town and everyone is notified and nothing happens and no one is trying to take down the dog.So. what happens is Atticus shoots the dog and then everyone is relieved because, everyone thought that the dog had rabies. So at the end of this chapter everyone is settled and the town is back to normal.

Chapter. 12 & 13

In chapters twelve and thirteen the story gets even more interesting. In these chapters the theme is basically about the neighborhood or you can say community. In this chapter Ms. Dubose dies and you might be wondering who she is…she lives down the street from Scout and Jem. She is very mean to the children and one day Jem can’t take it anymore so Jem cuts down her bushes so Ms. Dubose gets mad and makes Jem commit a punishment. His punishment is to read for her two hours almost every day. Jem is confused because he thought that since she really liked her bushes and he cut them down that he would get a very bad punishment. Instead he has to read for her and at the end of the chapter Ms.Dubose dies.

Courage

Courage and what it means to me. Courage is a strong word that has alot of meanings torward it. There can be academic courage, physical courage, and just plain out courage. When I think of the word courage I think about bravery and how someone who has a lot of courage it deals with them being brave. When someone's had courage it means that they aren't afraid to speak up and they aren't afraid of what other people think. It may also mean that they believein themselve and they believe that anything they want to happen can happen if you have courage. Also, courage means that if you put your mind to it and you believe in yourself then you can accomplish and have anything that you want. Courage can get you so far in life and if you have courage and bravness your in for a treat in life (: *

Chapter 18 & 19 *

In chapters 18 & 19 it mostly talks about the trial of Tom Robinson. It talks about the witnesses and their statements in chapter 18 and in chapter 19 it talks about the statements of Mayella Violet Ewell and Thomas Robinson. It talks about what was Mayella's side of the story and what was Tom Robinson's side of the storuy. At this point in the book Atticus thinks that Mayella might win the case and that Tom Robinson will be put in jail. The case is starting to get interesting and when Mayella made her testimony she was terried and scared of Atticus, it says that she gave a mollified look at Atticus and then began. People in the courtroom were very entertained and when Jem,Scout and Dill snucked down and saw the trial they were very entertained by how their father handled the testimonies and how Mayella was very sensitive when Atticus thought that he was mocking her. Overall, in these chapters you can see how the timing in this story affects the characters and what they do. If you want to know more about Courtroom procedure click here .

In class, weve been reading a book in class called To Kill A Mockingbird and it is a really interesting book/ topic. We have looked up many words and we have learned many words, each chapter we read (as a class) we annotate and have a group discussion. We also have to look up words that seem of some what intrest. In one chapter the exerpt said "...with chirstmas comes smilax and holly..." (Lee 27). When we read that I was ccurious and looked it up and i realized that it is another way to say greenery or wreath. It was interesting because in the south or other places thats a way of saying wreaths.
